Our gardens are an educational opportunity for our club members, the after school children’s program, the DIRT DIGGERS Jr. Master Gardener Club and the BSL residents.
Butterfly Garden was developed as a Youth Service / Earth Day project in 2007 with the children in the after school program at our community center. It has continued to flourish and grow as an ongoing BSL Garden Club project. This year the garden club men’s group installed decorative wooden edging around the gardens.
Ella Perry Rose Garden was designed and planted in 2008 in memory of one of our charter members. The rose garden was added to compliment the Butterfly Garden.
Hummingbird Garden was added in 2009. Club members prepared and planted the garden. Hummingbird nectar is regularly provided for our little “hummers” to feast on in addition to the flowers.
Margaret Davis Memorial Garden was designed and planted in memory of one of our Past Garden Club Presidents. The garden is at Spring Lake Park, under a canopy of long leaf pines. The garden is a wildflower meadow, with meandering pine straw pathways complimented with beds of daffodils, azaleas and columbines. It was presented in 2010 to the city for all residents to enjoy.
Native Plant Garden will be adjacent to the wildflower meadow. The garden is in memory of another Past Garden Club President, Delcy Jaunzemis. Landscape design students from Brunswick Community College will present their proposed designs for the garden. Our members will select one of these plans to implement.
